Strengthening theFeministMovementin Nepal

Tarangini Mahila Adhikar Prashikshyan Kendra (Tarangini Foundation), established in 2017, is a non-profit organization working on women’s rights. The Sanskrit word ‘Tarangini’ means person (feminine) creating waves. It is derived from the word “tarang” which means wave in English. This term is chosen for the institute as it best represents feminists and their movement in Nepal, which always created and is creating waves within all spheres of socio-political existence in the country.

Stories from the Movement

Real voices. Real change. Hear from the activists and community members whose lives have been transformed through our programs.

For the first time, I learned that I have labour rights and that my work deserves dignity and respect. The Drop-in Centre at Tarangini Foundation feels like a second home- a place where I am heard, supported, and encouraged to speak up for myself. Today, I have the confidence to advocate for my rights and inspire other domestic workers to do the same.

Domestic Worker ·

For years, I wanted to do something meaningful for my community, but I lacked the confidence to speak up. My identity was limited to being 'just a housewife,' and I never imagined I could take on a professional role. After joining Tarangini Foundation's Psychosocial Counselling Training, everything changed. Today, I confidently provide psychosocial support to people in need, and the greatest joy is introducing myself with pride as a Psychosocial Counsellor. This training didn't just build my skills- it helped me discover my voice, my purpose, and a new identity.

Returning home was filled with uncertainty, but Tarangini Foundation brought us (returnee migrant workers) together and helped us realize that our voices matter. With their continuous support, we established Shramjibi Mahila Manch, an organization led by returnee migrant women, where we learn, grow, and lead together. The capacity-building trainings and continuous mentorings conducted by Tarangini have given us the skills, confidence, and courage to advocate for our rights and champion the rights of women in our communities.
